    I tried doing the function change, usermeta to user_meta, to all usermeta tags in the subscribe2.php file. I also, although unnecessary, disabled other plugins, while installing the subscribe2 6.3 plugin using both the dashboard install program and using my FTP program.

    Looking at the subscribe2.php file, I noticed that not all, only some of the names were changed to user_meta, sometimes get_user_meta or user_meta_function were already changed, which confused me because even though it said, “all”, was it a function only change or was it only before or after the filter. I did change to reflect the _user_meta format but then looked at the filter section and noticed that it pretty much said what I was doing, so I thought it was going to take care of itself when run. I don’t have the ‘search’ to ‘query’ problem, does that matter. Obviously, I don’t have any PHP coding knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I tried to be informant of things I’ve done to remedy the problem, on my profile posts, hoping that it would remedy itself by downgrading or upgrading to versions that I do know it worked on, usually 2 versions over the minimum. My fixes were so basic until I decided to tackle the PHP file. I wanted to be more involved in fixing this problem, not always relying on the forum. As you can see, I need the forum now more than ever.

  • @brainjured,

    I think I understand what you did / were doing but my first question is “why”?

    Subscribe2 version 6.3 started making use of the user_meta() functions introduced in WordPress 3.0 but also preserved backwards compatibility to WordPress 2.8 by using it’s own internal meta function that direct to the most appropriate function names depending on the version of WordPress detected.

    Are you saying some of the user_meta functions are not working right which is why a fix is needed?

    Thank you for your reply, MattyRob. I did this because I thought that after it stopped working in July of’10 that something wasn’t making a connection or wasn’t installed correctly. I tried to downgrade, upgrade both the plug in and WordPress versions, staying within the compatibility ranges, thinking that would fix it. Things escalated from there. Unfortunately the up/downgrades didn’t work so I looked on the plugin page and it said in the troubleshooter to replace all usermeta with user_meta in the subscribe2.php. After that fix did not work I stopped making it worse, if anything. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what kind of fix the plugin needs. I admit, I got in deeper than I should have, not understanding what was actually happening. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    @brainjured,

    Try the latest version of Subscribe2 ‘off-the-peg’ and see if that starts working now. If not let me know what the symptoms are and what version of WordPress you are using.

    I am running 6.3 and WordPress 3.1.1. Where do I download ‘off-the-peg’. I went to the plugin page tlo see if I could download ‘off-the-peg’ 6.3 was the latest. I’ve upgraded from the wordpress Dashboard, I think since version 6.1. I’ve even installed it from the dashboard too. I’ve pretty much kept up-to-date on the upgrades. Oh yeah, when I mailed to only my subscribers, it didn’t work until I upgraded to 6.3.

    I made a backup before changing the PHP file to reflect the user_meta changes. I figured any problem with this plugin or any plugin, like a brain injury, is that no 2 brain injuries(problems) are the same. The HTML version is ‘off-the-peg’ right.

    OK, I purchased the latest, ‘off-the-peg’, you should be sending me the code soon and I’ll keep you informed of my progress with it via support.

    @brainjured,

    Okay, the ‘off-the-peg’ version is what you’d get from the Admin area in WordPress. The HTML version is an edited version of the code that is a fork with HTML functionality as default. If you purchased it you should now be able to download it.

    I only found ms-upgrade-network.php in wp-admin directory, is that it.

    @brainjured,

    I cannot find any record of a purchase at WPPlugins that might be you unless you’ve used a totally different user name. If you have purchased you get downloads and support for 7 days from the time of purchase so contact the team there.

    The file you found is not what you are looking for.

    After I extracted and replaced the file, I posted a new post and nothing happened. I either need to redo the settings or maybe the page I created is wrong.
