• So I’m not quite a novice when it comes to wordpress but I’m certainly not a pro, and that is now showing after trying to do something that seemed simple.

    So I was messing around with some of the discussion options and everything was fine, until I attempted to change the url from wp to blog (at least I think it started here). From there everything has gone haywire.

    I can still get to a “login” screen and I say that because it’s one of those “the coding is messed up” looking screens. I have since gone into cPanel and uploaded new .php files for all the discussion files but its still not updating or changing. I’m hoping I haven’t gone to far at this point.

    Here is a link to my blog site, as you can see it’s clearly not working well. Typing in wp/wp-login.php tells me it can’t find my site, and if I try blog or anything else I can’t get to the dashboard. I’m at a total loss and am freaking out that I fully blew it here. Someone please help, and if you need any clarification please let me know.

    Thanks

  • What is https://photoshelter.com/beam?

    <link rel="dns-prefetch" href="//css.c.photoshelter.com/">
    <link rel="dns-prefetch" href="//js.c.photoshelter.com/">
    <link rel="dns-prefetch" href="//cdn.c.photoshelter.com/">

    What is that for?

    I placed the “WP_HOME” and “WP_SITEURL” in the wp-config.php file, so the root wp folder. I haven’t touched the theme’s functions.php file. I didn’t do anything to tamper with the theme when I was messing around, just with the functionality of the wordpress blog itself.

    And I can’t even get to a location where I can enter the username and password. I didn’t tamper with the database username or passsword at anytime.

    I just did a live chat with namecheap (who is my host) and they said everything is fine on their end.

    If I do an uninstall via softaculous can I save my posts and content just reinstall wordpress?

    [image redacted]

    If I unclick any options is saving content still plausible?

    @kmessinger

    That would be the moronic site builder my boss is making us use and Beam is the basically the useless template that he has chosen to use.

    As for that coding, your guess is as good as mine.

    Did you change the update_option() lines to define() in wp-config.php?

    Are the database credentials in that image correct in your wp-config.php? (Database Name, Database User, Database Password and Database Host ).

    Try and create a database backup first with phpMyAdmin.

    Figures the picture didn’t work.

    I removed the image because it had database credentials in it. Please don’t post it again.

    Cheers thanks

    Yes, I used the “define” line for the wp-config.php.

    And yes, those all line up with what is in my config file.

    I’ll go ahead and try to do a backup

    So I’m in phpMyAdmin and I can’t find anything in terms of a database.

    What in the world is happening?

    Thread Starter forwarddesignbuild

    (@forwarddesignbuild)

    Ok, so here’s an update for anyone who even wants to tackle this one.

    My SQL datebase is more or less gone. I can still see the user and database but there is no info inside and it’s as if it’s been freshly created. I still can’t access my actual page, BUT if I go into my actual “wp” root file I can still see all the content I had posted and such (images, posts, plugins, etc).

    So, next steps? Can I just give a fresh reboot while keeping the content I have posted, or do I need to completely restart? Options are open from here on out…

    This day has sucked

    Ask your host if they can help you further. It seems the database was (accidentally) deleted or your host doesn’t have phpMyAdmin hooked up right. Also ask if they make regular backups of the database.

    I’m sorry this happened to you. For what it’s worth I don’t think setting the home and site url had much to do with it.

    Thread Starter forwarddesignbuild

    (@forwarddesignbuild)

    I think you’re on to something there. I can’t honestly say what happened. Needless to say web design is not my greatest forte.

    Is there a way to get the content off cPanel at all? May make creating a new site easier (assuming that’s what I have to do).

    Either way thank you SO MUCH for all your help and support. I can’t really give anything via the internet other than my utmost thanks, but seriously, thank you so much for all your help in trying to figure this whole thing out.

    (@keesiemeijer)

    You’re welcome.

    If there’s nothing in the database you cannot get the content back.
    The only way as it seems now is if your host makes regular backups.

    You can always start from scratch if that’s what you want. But I would first ask my host what happened and if they have backups before you do.

    Did you ask the previous developer how he/she set your site up?

    I haven’t seen a setup like this before. Your css, javascript and cdn are all coming from photoshelter.com

    A scan by Sucuri shows you as the host but the IP address is for https://www.photoshelter.com/

    Scan for: https://www.planforward.net
    Hostname: https://www.planforward.net
    IP address: 69.22.188.80

    Maybe they have your database?

    Thread Starter forwarddesignbuild

    (@forwarddesignbuild)

    Like I said, it’s all a massive mess. Something was bound to mess up at some point.

    I see the content via my cPanel account, but I’ll have to track down the database. To be fair, I’ve actually got us slated to leave photoshelter all together so maybe a fresh start would be nice, but that’s months of content gone…

    I know our host is namecheap, but we’re using photoshelter as the place where we actually build the website. I wasn’t around when it was set up so maybe there is some weird marriage between the two, but yeah, this whole thing sucks.
