    Hi

I removed W3 Total Cache Plug-In but I still get the following error message, if I then try to re-install:

W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/sqjkuiut/watercompany.dk/wp-content/object-cache.php. But I have removed the file by FTP.

As this problem causes many other problems, I could really do with some help.

    Thx.

    Hello @shelbergs

I am sorry about the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to help!
You should make sure that everything is removed from the server.
    Please manually remove the following:

    1. Delete wp-content files and folders
    – cache folder
    – w3tc-config folder
    – object-cache.php (if exists)
    – advanced-cache.php (if exists)
    – db.php (if exists)
    – upgrade folder
    – delete w3-total-cache folder in wp-content/plugins/ (if exists)
    2. Check .htaccess File (make backup)
W3TC will create many directives in the .htaccess file to control the caching behavior. Each section will start and end with comments like “#BEGIN W3TC Page Cache core” and “#END W3TC Page Cache core”.
Ensure that no residual entries are leftover in your .htaccess file after deleting the plugin.
    3. Go to your wp dashboard and re-install W3 Total Cache

    Thanks!

    Hi @vmarko

I have done this, but when I try to install again I get the following error

W3 Total Cache Error: Files and directories could not be automatically created to complete the installation.

    Please execute commands manually
or use FTP form to allow W3 Total Cache make it automatically.

    Hello @shelbergs

This means that the files and folders on your server do not have correct permissions and W3 Total Cache cannot add/ remove all necessary files ad drop-ins and also cannot write to .htaccess which is necessary for the plugin to work as expected.
    You should change the permissions:
    Files – 644
    Folders 755

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

    Hi @vmarko

How do I change the permissions? I have FTP-access but not direct server access. I can of course contact our server provider, if I can’t fix it myself.

    Thx

You can change file/dir permissions via FTP, if CHMOD FTP command is not disallowed by the hoster,
you can check this manual on how to do it with various FTP clients:

Folder wp-content is already set to 0755
File .htaccess is already set to 0644

    Hello @shelbergs

    Thank you for your feedback.
I would advise reaching out to your hosting provider since you are still experiencing this issue and seeing where might be the problem with permissions.
W3TC needs to drop-in files in wp-content, write the /cache/ folder and sub-folders, writhe the .htaccess/nginx.conf and add the config file in wp-contnent/w3tc-config/

    Thanks!
