I need straightforward info on editing

  • I am trying to edit my blog from the edit template menu from the administration interface. I can change things, but it wont show up as being changed on my actual blog.

    Am I doing this wrong? Can you show me how to?

    Explain in the most simplest way possible please…

  • At the bottom of that field where you edit there is a short sentence:
    If this file was writable you could edit it.

    Is this straightforward enough? ??

    OK, Using your FTP client chmod those files you want to edit to make them writable (e.g. 666 or something like that).

    And as a last note: I wouldn’t use that built-in editor for a complete overhaul of the blog. I’d do it in a more traditional way: text editor.

    are you sure you are looking at the right template?

    it could be saved on your browser
    clear out the cache and restart the browser.

    Okay yeah i’ll try these thanks guys! And the file I need to change anything is style.css right? So FTP it to my computer and hand code the files marked style.css?

    No, you need to set the permissions on the server your website is on. Doing this on your local computer will not help at all. ??

    Erwin surely thats not right. If you edit locally and ftp you are fine. No chmod needed. To answer the guys point – in most themes nowadays the CSS is in style.css. If it is not for any reason you can find it in index php by looking for the name of the CSS file which is in a line that starts @import near the top.

    Either code locally and upload or chmod files ‘writeable’ (666) and make changes via admin menu.
