I Need Some Form Formatting Help (or these could be feature-suggestions)

There are two things that I need, and I would appreciate some help achieving either one…
The first is for the checkbox type to somehow render the “checkbox and label”, rather than the “checkbox-inside-a-span and the label”. The current way it’s done is severely screwing up my styling and making it impossibly difficult to associate a label to a given checkbox.
The second thing is a way to stop the automatic ‘br’ tags replacing line-breaks in the form; containing items in paragraphs or divs with ‘display:block’ would be more efficient and cause a lot less interferance with my styling.
As it is I usually hand-code my forms using the same element names, which renders the interface completely useless — it “works” but it’s not helpful when a coworker — or heaven-forbid a client — wants to make changes to the form.
