I need multiple threads in wp

I have a need to share information of many kinds with other people. I have been waiting much too long to share it, trying to decide how to do it. I need to have some kind of webpage, blog or CMS that has multiple “columns”, columns in the sense of topics. Here is what I need to do:

* I am studying Chinese and want to be able to have a column about my discoveries in the Chinese language
* I also do studies in Chinese history, geography and culture, and want a column for this
* I need a personal column to share pics of my students, life, travels, etc
* I need a column to share pics and info about the work that I do with a local orphanage here.
* I would also like to have one to put up general news and interesting events that happen…
I have some others as well..I am an information pack rat! I also would like to connect with a couple of installs of SMF forums, my coppermine photo database, facebook chat, youtube, registrations

I have seen dozens (hundreds??) of templates for WP but they all seem to only manage what I am calling one or two “columns”. Is there some way I can use WP to do what I need? Or do I need to go to some kind of CMS like Drupal? Please help me find links and search words to help me understand this whole area of computer usage.

Sorry if I am not using the right terminology…please feel free to correct me or add to my understanding in any way possible. Free is also good. I do not make a lot of $$ here ??
