With a little luck, the worst that happened was that you deleted your wp-config file along with the rest. This can be solved relatively easily by doing a new install and enter the ‘old info’ in the new wp-config file. The database (hopefully) is left intouched and all posts, etc. are still there.
If you action deleted everything, including the database, you will indeed have to restore the backup.

So, I should cancel the current restore that is “sending request”

And then am I doing the new install in fantastico? Because I did that already and that was when it went ka-poof. Or do I need to reinstall the newer version of wordpress in to my FTP??

I am so confused. Last time I did this it went so easily. I had not a single problem.

Try making manually.

Download wordpress latest version from https://www.wordpress.com extract the downloaded zip. Rename wp-config-sample.php to config.php and then edit the config.php file according to your suite (your database and username and other details), save the file.

copy the complete extracted wordpress into your public_html folder.

Backup the database first. Then do whatever you like if you want to save your data.

But I have one more question before I try anything else.

In my cpanel/fantastico if I go to the part where you install/remove wordpress, it only has wordpress 2.7 available. No 2.7.1

I currently have 2.7.1 in my FTP but if that version isn’t available in my cpanel could THAT be the problem??

Since you said that you already have a backup, my advice it to first see if your database / blog content is where it should be and if that if the case, install a new WP manually. I have no clue what these automatic installs of fantastico do, so I don’t trust them.

And I don’t know how to open that to see. Maybe I have been “back up” the wrong way. I have watched the video (1 not 2) that figaro sent a link to and all of that was chinese to me. I’ve never gone in to that SQL thing.

thats perfectly normal.

a tar.gz is a compressed archive, like a .zip file. you can open that file with winzip, for instance.

If you’re going to be solving peoples problems you might start by not giving them incorrect information. You don’t download WP at wordpress.com. You download it by clicking the red link in the upper right side of this page that days “download”.

Boo, what I’m trying to say is: use your Cpanel to see if the database is still there. If it is, you don’t need the backup, you can just reinstall WP with the old database information.
If the database was deleted, then you’ll need your backup to restore things.

Hm. I am trying. I don’t really know how to use my cpanel. Up until now I didn’t know that it had so many other features that would apply to me. I am still relatively new to all of this. With those instructional video’s I can see where everything is but that doesn’t mean I will know if the database is still ok.

I am having trouble with my wordpress password and account. We reinstalled wordpress to the FTP and have replaced all of the files that we took out to keep safe. And this is the warning we get now if we try to view the site.

When this originally happened, when I tried to log back in to wordpress admin and then even here, I had a lot of trouble. When I requested a new password (kept telling me invalid) and then gave them my email address it said that no such user was registered with that email address.

I’m not sure if that’s now become the problem. Maybe my config file has the wrong password in it??

OK I am in my file manager thing and it would appear that everything is there. I still have reservations about what I really know and if I am correct. So if someone could ask me to find them a special file that would ONLY be there if my database was OK that would be good.

Then I would think that I need to reinstall wordpress once again. Is the best way to do that through cpanel or through file manager or on my FTP??

The pre-last post suggests that you deleted the wp-config file. Not very smart, but no disaster when you put the old info in the new wp-config file.
In your cpanel there should also be a part with databases, go there and try to find out if you still have a database. You can’t see that in the file manager, since files and the database are two completely different things.
