I just lost everything! Can't get to dashboard, blank website

  • I have been working on this site all day long.. I’m using Opulence theme and I don’t know what I was thinking, but I went to Opulence> Custom File Editor> and put in some code to try to fix a slider. I only know a little about this stuff, so it’s mostly experimenting.. but this step wiped out everything and I can’t get back in at all. Every attempt leads to a blank white page. Any suggestions?

  • What you can do is find the FTP credentials from your web host, use an FTP client, such as FileZilla, and find the file that you edited in error and replace it with one from a download of that version of your theme.

    I now see it is “the white screen of death” and I need to access the site through FTP.
    I am so lost on that… downloaded FireZilla but don’t know what to do next.

    Please review the link I provided and also the documentation (help) that comes with FileZilla. You may also want to contact host. I can assure that all of the above, when done as a first timer, will take more than 5 minutes to understand and learn (you replied 5 minutes after I).

    Sorry I did not see your reply before my second comment, but yes.. thank you for your help. I ended up having great difficulty logging into the server with FileZilla for some reason – no combination of servers, IP, username, password, would work. I’d get logged in for a brief moment then I would get an error and it disconnected. Ultimately, I logged into the domain host control panel and was able to navigate all files. Found what I needed and fixed it. Thank you so much for your responses.
