    Hello fellow WP’ers!

I can login and out no problem but when I go to view the blog page, it is now white (my blog has been running for awhile now).

This started as soon as I added the drop-down box JS code from this page: https://itsybitsypixels.net/wplb/?page_id=3D67 to my sidebar.

From what I can tell, a password is needed to login so I’m not able to get any help there (assuming it is a legit site).

I submitted a new post but the screen at the blog site is still white.

Finally, I’ve looked at various backup plugins but I haven’t found one that I can use to restore the data also so the backup does me know good. My host (Y!) is slow to act so I need my own alternative for backup/restores; can someone point me to a good plugin for this so I can fix it myself next time? I’m running WP2.01 on an XP box. TIA.

  • What happens when you remove that code ?

same, I did that first thing of course lol

Try changing themes. Change to Classic.

didn’t think of that, I’ll have to upload it first, hopefully that will repair the db and then I can go back to my HEAVILY modified theme… any chance IYO?

    Themes do not repair db’s.

but the above is for before, not after…

I realize themes don’t, just wishful thinking I guess at 5am.

I don’t see a restore tab in that picture, what do I do about that?

I really don’t understand why the Classic theme pops up fine but going back to the “bad” theme does not. Just to triple check, I verified the sidebar again, uploaded it, and went back to the old theme but it wouldn’t give anything but a white screen whereas switching it right then to Classic gave the data.

I knew the theme code had nothing to do with the db data but why does this switch bring my data back? Confused…

If you are using wp.2, try deleting the /wp-content/cache directory ?

“Verified” – checked there was no bad code in there ?

right, the JS was just one block of code, I took it out and even checked to make sure I didn’t put it in the index or page files by accident (been up awhile lol), gonna delete the cache now as directed…. oh boy!

    cache folder gone
    old theme = white screen
Classic = blog looks good (as good as Classic goes anyway)

Any other tricks? That one was hopeful but no joy.

I guess I could just go get another theme (God, all those hours! but it was good practice lol) but I really would like to know about the restore process; do any of those screenshot apps offer it that you know of (otherwise, it is really just false security as far as I’m concerned)? TIA

    Database backup

    Site backup ?
You need to ftp the whole thing (or at least what matters) to your machine as often as needed.
If you want to do this frequently, this is an excellent program:

Yea, I meant DB backup, my script does a nightly for my whole box so that’s never a problem, it’s the db stuff that gets me everytime (did I say 6 times since early Dec?). Skippy says on that site several times to go elsewhere for now for restores, guess I gotta learn this phpAdmin stuff after all for now.

Well, I think that’s that, let me know if you need a campaign manager.

    PODZ FOR PRESIDENT!

(I didn’t get me old theme back (and really don’t understand why the db cares what db I use, guess it does sound like I left some code in there!) but you’ve been a big help and I really appreciate it. Peace & G/L.
