We have already pushed an update that lowers the opacity of the site icon to be less intrusive. We’re actively working on a different menu icon that’s more toned down. We’re listening to what people are saying and trying to make the best adjustments for the majority of users as fast as we can.
“Monster” is part of our overall company brand. We have other products, like OptinMonster, the largest optin plugin for WordPress, that share the same monster branding. As for the text of the menu item, we’re also discussing that internally as well.
As for the menu placement, we didn’t actually change the menu location at all code wise. It seems for some people, the item may have been in a different place, but according to the trac repo’s blame records, the “position” number, which is used by WordPress in add_menu_page to determine placement, hasn’t been changed in 15 months. We’re going to consider our options carefully before we re-adjust the location code (because conversely, many people have had it where it is for a while and we don’t want those users feeling “lost” either). I happen to agree with the menu being too high, but given that we wanted to not make too many changes too quickly, I didn’t realize that some people have the menu item in a different location. We’re going to adjust this, the page icon, and some more over in an update very soon.

This is also on our priority fix list.
We’re going to be working very hard to not only fix some of the new and existing bugs but bring it up to the standards of other other plugins. I can promise you this, we’re working as hard and quickly as possible to bring everyone the best possible experience, and we’re 100% committed to ensuring everyone is happy with the end product we put out. We use it ourselves, on all of our sites, and we’re looking forward over the coming months to give you all a lot of the long requested features that were not implemented, along with new features that will offer you are more detailed understanding about your site’s visitors (thus the insight, in MonsterInsights).
