I have my own installation of WP, where is my API key?

  • I’ve been trying to get the Akismet spam plugin to work and it says I need an API key. I’ve looked at all of the FAQs about finding where to find it but I still cannot locate mine and I’m starting to wonder whether ‘own’ installations of WP have API keys…

    Can anyone help?

  • As the Akismet documentation states, you get your API key from wordpress.COM. Yes, signing up there gives you a free hosted blog. No, you need not ever use it — but that’s where you’ll get the API key to use with your own install of WordPress.
