I have multiple sites and they seem to be getting confused

  • I have three sites (a work site, blog and portfolio site). I have the same username for all of them. There is ongoing issues when I try to log in – passwords not working, etc. Is it wrong to have multiple sites with the same username? They have different passwords, but they don’t work all the time. Then I have a password sent to me, and I can get into the site that time, but I wonder if it is resetting passwords for the other sites? I have no idea what is going on.

    Are you using Multisite? I’m guessing not.

    There should not inherently be a problem with logging in to multiple WordPress sites from the same machine. I use the same username on a zillion sites. (Maybe not exactly a zillion…)

    Are you in any way using your browser’s “remember passwords” feature? Sometimes that easily confuses folks.

    I realize you may already have done this, but I would log in to each of the sites right now, change the password to something you know, write those down, then go back to each of the 3 sites using a different browser and see if you can log in successfully.

    Lastly, wondering if you are using any special plugins that change Login / User password behavior?

    Thanks so much. I did what you recommended and went to all sites and they were working fine … for a brief period of time. Now, I am trying to log on to this WP site https://melissawyllie.wordpress.com/, which is a free blog and it is not accepting the password. When I click on the link to reset the password, it is sending an email to me saying that I am trying to reset the password to this site: https://foundfeather.com/twosoupscoldbeans/, which is a paid site. I honestly have no idea what is going on. I do not have any plug ins that change login/user behavior and I am not remembering passwords.

    It seems that there are certainly people managing several sites on WP, not sure what I did to mix it all up.
