• I installed their plugin to test it. Found I didn’t need it an uninstalled it. Within minutes I have received 3 emails from them asking me why.

They were able to access my contact information, my name, and my email address. They have created a ticket and an account all without my permission

I will re-think my usage of WordPress as a result. This is spam at the least and privacy invasion.

  • No, I don’t think that is spam. I would imagine you don’t bother to read the terms of service or TOS when you sign up for things. I bet you just check that box and move on. Companies reserve the right to reach out to you for you using their “free” plugin. They spent time which is money creating the plugin you used. Do you think they should just give that away without anything at all from you even if it is just information on why you uninstalled it?

Sorry to hear you had trouble with the plugin. When you activate the plugin, we give the option for you to signup for email updates and improvements to the plugin. It also enables us to contact you in case you run into issues or if we need to collect some data for improving our product.

You probably chose to signup without which we have no way to know your email.

The skip button is prominently displayed too if you do not wish to opt for the newsletter.

This signup process is managed by Freemius (freemius.com) and you are free to reach out to [email protected] for further concerns and queries. No need to abandon our plugin or WordPress itself since no information will be collected without your explicit consent. Hope this clarifies.

    Hi @roban

Brandon from Freemius here. I wanted to reach out directly and let you know about how data collection and the opt-in process works with plugins that are selling or offering their product with Freemius integrated. None of your information is shared whatsoever if you choose to “Skip” opt-in immediately after activation of the plugin.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:

If you choose “Allow & Continue” information is shared with the developer via the Freemius platform so the developer can simply do their best job to serve you as their customer or user.

All of this is fully aligned with www.remarpro.com guidelines and is clearly laid out during the activation and “opt-in” process.

WordPress is an amazing platform, and I would highly encourage you to keep using it. You can have complete privacy over your information without any doubts if you simply read what you’re clicking through.

If you have any further questions, please contact us at [email protected].

    Sincerely,

    Brandon
