• The only reason I’m giving 4 stars for now, is to hopefully the developer takes my points constructively and not as criticism…

    1. I wish this plugin would add all the settings to ALL registered blocks, and not the native built in blocks. I would love to have these controls for my custom ACF Blocks for example, or some third party block that has limited settings. The “Blocks CSS: CSS Editor for Gutenberg Blocks” plugin is proof that this is indeed possible…

    2. It seems to me that we cannot set shape dividers on both the top and at the bottom of an object at the same time, we have to choose one or the other, am I missing something, or this is a small limitation of the shape dividers?

For now, other than those 2 things, this plugin is near perfection.

P.S. I had misspelled the last word “perfection” and my grammar check wanted me to fix it to “erection” – that would have put me in a heap of trouble, but it made me laugh !!!

Thanks for this awesome plugin btw… good job !

UPDATE: After further discussions as you can see below, all my concerns are now resolved, hence I’m changing my 4 stars to 5 stars…

    Hi @nick6352683

Thank you for your review and feedback. This is a developing plugin as you may understand and I am continuously improving it and adding more features based on the feedback and my own experience working with Gutenberg Editor. Let me answer your 2 concerns.

    1) I have not intentionally enabled it for all 3rd party blocks, because that seems to me useless and mostly clutter the Gutenberg editor. most 3rd party blocks bring their own styling options (stackable, qubely, etc). Why would one want Editor Plus options on top of what those block already brings? It will only clutter the block sidebar and raise conflicts with that block’s options. hope you get the point?

    2) yeah currently you can only enable the shape divider on either position, I will, however, revisit this as per your suggestion.

Rest assured, I am collecting feedback and improving the plugin based on that. please feel free to pass any more suggestions and ideas you may have. ??

    Hi Munir,

Your statement about the third party block libraries having their own settings is half true. Yes, almost all of them have some sort of margin/padding controls on their container/section blocks for example, but almost none of them have these controls on their other blocks, like their sliders, testimonials, Call to Action, etc…, so there is a need for this plugin to cover the hole that these blocks have, but I can see your point too. A good compromise would be for the site admin to decide and set which blocks the Editor Plus settings to be included, and I know that will be a huge and time consuming task to code.

I personally have no issues in doing things manually with some custom CSS coding, but many don’t know how to.

Also, if confusion is your issue, and I agree with you 100%, maybe all of your setting panels, Typography, Background, etc… can be tucked away under one main panel, ie: Editor Plus Settings, and only when you open that panel you would see all this plugin’s settings.

The main point I’m trying to get across is that the built in blocks fail to have these controls, and many third party block libraries also fail, with the exception of their Section/Container blocks… You are the only hope that I can find right now, to give the power to Gutenberg, that even any average Page Builder has.

Nevertheless, I appreciate this plugin very much, and use it daily.

The last thing I want you think is that I am arguing with you in any way, I am just making some suggestions (actually pleading) to make everybody’s life easier.

    Thanks for everything.

    Hi @nick6352683

First of all, I really appreciate you taking time to write all the details and I am open to discuss about any potential feature ideas anyone can bring to this plugin or any of my plugins. ??

now, regarding the 3rd party support, I think that won’t be useful at all. Even the 3rd party devs would not like it that their blocks got cluttered with another plugin like “Editor Plus”. Also, the best way for a user would be to use the options comes by that 3rd party block dev, as they know what they are doing and plan to add to their blocks. For example, if they do not have an option now for a block, they may add it based on user feedback.

And btw, there is still a way to apply margin, padding, background, etc on 3rd party blocks via putting them inside a “Group Block” simply. You put it in a group block and apply the styling via the Editor Plus plugin. That’s still possible.

See, I will be honest, I do not see much value of enabling the options for all 3rd party blocks. If you also ask from the developers of those block plugins, they would say the same. ??

Btw, just so you know, there is also an issue in the Gutenberg API that is a blockage here to implement it even if I wish to do it. I’ve raised this concern with them in a GitHub issue here.

Let me tell you about the irony here… I always tell my clients if a certain block does not have a certain control that is needed, such as an anchor for example, put that block inside a Group block !

For whatever reason I failed to remember that in this case, my brain was stuck making the argument and thus failed to look the problem from another angle.

With this “revelation” I’m changing my review to 5 stars, and I’m publicly declaring this as a must use plugin, and you sir as an awesome and patient developer. Maybe in the description you should mention the Group block part, you might get some more users, and don’t have to deal with pains in the … like me !!!

    Thanks for everything Munir.
