I found a bug on your code and fixed for you =)

Problem is: Imediatly after installing this plugin, i receive error about unset variable, in this case the $cat, because I didn’t set any category to order yet, which might happen to anyone who install this.

So I wrote a small fix, so it will always show posts ordered by DESC at the moment of this plugin install. Later if people want to add any category ordered by ASC, then the plugin comes to action ??
