    Hi All,

I’m going through the instructions on my Yoast for WordPress course. I tried to follow the instructions on Webmaster tools verification under SEO
https://jimwilliamsbooks.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpseo_dashboard#top#webmaster-tools but when I go to Webmastertools and click on Google Search Console: it does not look like the page in the video but I followed the instructions under Recommended method

    1. Download this HTML verification file. [google4ee0f922e97bcca0.html]
    2. Upload the file to https://jimwilliamsbooks.com/
    3. Confirm successful upload by visiting https://jimwilliamsbooks.com/google4ee0f922e97bcca0.html in your browser.
    4. Click Verify below.

I tried uploading the file in Media but the permalink dropped the .html so I created a page called google4ee0f922e97bcca0.html and pasted the contents of the file. The dot (.) was changed to a dash (-) on saving but typing in the URL https://jimwilliamsbooks.com/google4ee0f922e97bcca0.html brought up the file and as you might expect it was a normal WordPress page. So how do you create a simple HTML file in WordPress?

When I clicked Verify, I got the following error message

Verification failed for https://jimwilliamsbooks.com/ using the HTML file method (less than a minute ago). Your verification file has the wrong content. Are you using the verification file that was downloaded from this site?

I tried uploading the file in Media

You don’t upload it via Media. Upload the .html file via FTP or your hosting control panel into the root of your WordPress installation.

    Thanks, Steve, you’re a Star!
I thought it was that but my Hosting company don’t let me use FTP, so I have asked them to do it for me.

What if WordPress is hosting your site, how do you upload a Google HTML verification file?
    I too tried in media.
I tried creating a post (private).
I tried creating a page (private). Don’t really want them to show this info publicly.
