and uploaded everything to the server but when I “Launch /wp-admin/install.php in your browser” I get a bunch of garble all over the screen but I did notice that it notices that I already had an installation before (I’m trying to correct on I screwed up before) and then I see it says to delete the old tables so doesn’t that mean that all my previous data on the blog will be gone? Is there anyway I can save it now at this point? How do I delete the tables anyway, it doesn’t say in the browser window. TIA.

fine, but I don’t care how easy the instructions are when i do them and they don’t work, it doesn’t mean i didn’t do them just because i can’t login, again, and i’m sure you’ve heard this a million times but i am very pc literate, maybe not in this software but i can follow instructions, so when it doesn’t work and we keep begging for help with crap we know nothing about, while it may not be your fault directly, 2 explanations of a 5 min rule that has taken me all day with no end in site is ridiculous… WP needs a fulltime paid staff to help you guys, I could only imagine what you guys are going thru, obviously, without you guys, we’d really be up the creek, for about a day anyway lol thx again

Since I wanted to move from one sub-dir to another and my ftp client wouldn’t let me do a “copy”, I had to download my server version of my WP blog and upload it to the new sub-dir that I had “already” set the path to inside WP. At least I coulda swore 99% that I set the new path first but either my cache, my mind, or something got it all screwed up. When I started thinking aout it, all I needed to do was download and then upload to the new sub-dir (since my Filezilla wouldn’t let me copy).

ot- the ftp thing got me thinking about hosting real quick, I’m a first time blogger, went with DreamHost based on this site and others but I tell you they SUCK for responding to HELP msgs, I’m still waiting from 3 days ago via their forum, I sent them an email and still haven’t heard from them, my advice, try GoDaddy or something YMMV

I don’t even have the install.php anywhere… why is that.

    Hi,

Have Nathosting plus a Plesk cpanel for a domain. I have created a subdirectory called “blog” in my httpdocs and mysql data base is set up and have confirmation from nathsting that “localhost” is my mysql host.

But keep getting errors that my host or wp-config file is not correct. I have checked and rechecked and it is filled out correctly what it confirms but cannot get my blog installed……..do I have to enter my subdirectory name somewhere in my wp-config file?

    podz,

    Thanks for the link!

Unfortunately, my info is filled out correctly based on the tutorial …….now what?

Does it have to do with the fact that I have WordPress in a directory, like “www.example.com/blog/” ????? on my domain?

OK, here’s what my hosting help says…..
    “Dear Customer,

    PHP version is 4.3.11.

    MySQL version is 4.1.12.

Please note you are on Windows Server, so path in configuration files should be in windows format.”

What does this mean? Windows Format? I’m a newbie.
