• Hi,

2 years ago i was just starting out wordpress, i designed a website on a hostgator then i stopped paying for the hosting and downloaded the whole wordpress directory through ftp (I know stupid but I didnt know that will create a problem),but now i want to run the website through local host, how can i do that?
is there a plugin or something that lets me upload each directory and will fix it for me or something?

    Thanks a lot in advance

  • There should be no problem with restoring the files as long as you have them all. You do have a dump of the database too, don’t you? If so, you can restore that to a new local database, change the connection settings in your wp-config.php file and start off again.

If you’re having problems, what problems are you having?

    Hi,
    thanks for the response,
I dont think i downloaded the database i think i only downloaded the htdocs directory only.
but i tried to do as you said, but correct me if i did a step wrongly.

I downloaded bitnami wordpress to a directory and then went to the htdocs and copied the mysql properties in wp-config.php to the old wp-config.php and ran the localhost and it worked but the only thing imported were the plugins and the themes but nothing else no pictures in the media tab no pages in the pages tab nothing.
    Is there something missing ?
    thank you .

What you need is a copy of your original MySQL database. Did you ever download a backup of it. if you did you should be able to restore it locally by running phpmyadmin, or whatever database administration tool bitnami came with.
