• It’s hard to say this without sounding ungrateful for all the work people put into this. And I really love WP.
But I just dloaded and installed 2.5, and was really disappointed.
There were a lot of improvements, but I have two main concerns.

    -Poor backwards compatibility with theme/plugin.
Granted, I’ve only spent little time on this, but my theme doesn’t work and the plugins has glitches.

    -Poor admin menu.
This is more important though, I am really not pleased with the admin menu. It is too simple, and I find that it takes time to get the complete overview on each page. The colors don’t help either. It’s cool if it looks good, but this is the back end of my site, and therefore I just want it to work as efficiently as possible.

I fear that I will have to use a lot of time and effort to update my site. But I also want the new improvements and the security. I don’t want to be stuck with 2.3 for ever. Help?

One last disclaimer: These are my personal opinions, I don’t mean to start a flame war, and I know that 2.5 is still in beta and I that I haven’t tested it for a long time. I just had to say it.

  • I don’t really like it either.. ??

I agree while at first glance the admin ‘looks’ simpler it takes far more time and clicks/scrolling to get anything done.

Also the Widget/Sidebar management does seem a step backwards – and also wont work for me with the Text Widget – as the box is too wide for the display area.

I do like some of the updates alot, its really only the layout that seems the big problem here.

It isn’t the loss of drag’n’drop in the widget screen that works on my nerves, but the fact that some widget (even standard widgets) are wider than the part of the screen in which to edit them, so I can’t edit them (the “remove” button falls off the screen to name one thing). Also for some reason I can no longer make different text widgets. I only add two of the same, of which one can’t be edited…

    Hi,
any one found a plugin to revert BACK to ver 2.3.3, from 2.5. All I want to do is my posting, not mess around trying to post and correcting imported posts from Blogger. Had made great progress using ver 2.3.3, this was all messed up switching to ver 2.5. Perhaps if I had not started with 2.3.2 and upgraded to 2.3.3, it would have been OK.
am ready to look for alternatives or go back to Blogger.
Soooo, anyone, a plugin to revert back to normal insanity.

have you any backup of your old database? what web host are you using? they might automatically back it up for you. if you havent upgraded for too long you might be able to get a copy of your old db — then it’s just copying the 2.3.3 install back.

otherwise, i dont think a plug-in is going to help. =)

I’m used to it now. I think it is much more user-friendly! Once 2.6 comes along and fixes several bugs/problems I’ll be much more happy.

    Hello All,
Still staying with the older version of WP.
Will at another date retry the latest version on my fake localhost setup. Took a lot of doing to restore the original version after the disastrous switchover. Am gun shy now, and do not want a repeat of that event. Did try ver 2.5.1, it still had all the good stuff gone, that made my blogging smooth. So here is what I finally got it all down to.

Still need to get RSS and subscribe functions to work on the current theme , which was made with Theme Generator.
Any one with the know how to add in the mentioned functions, I would appreciate the advice.

don’t want to get too off-topic, but Fluency IS rather nice. Thanks for the link.

Someone needs to develop a plugin to fix the Widgets control page though! Either restore it, or make it better. Don’t strip functionality.
