• I have been getting a ton of spam in the last 24 hours on my 2.5.1 blog, all of the format:

    =====
    Author : Ubmowhuu (IP: 24.237.1.110 , 110-1-237-24.gci.net)
    E-mail : [email protected]
    URL : https://thjysdxr.com/

    8 random character author, 8 random character email and domain, 8 random character url, 6 random character body.

    First of all, why is this even being sent? It doesn’t refer to any existing web site, it’s not trying to sell any “enhancement” products — I don’t understand why anybody is making the effort to use it as spam.

    Second, is there any way to use Regular Expressions to block spam? My blog is not so popular that I have had to install a blocking plugin, and would really rather not if I can help it.

    Third, is there any way to block comments not using the Latin Alphabet? That wouldn’t help with this batch, but would block about half of my “regular” spam. This seems like a pretty basic thing..

  • Just install WP-spamfree plugin and you’ll be on your way.

    It may just be someone testing an automated spamming tool.

    2.5.1? Upgrade!
    And for the spam, I use Bad Behavior and JS Spamblock.

    Thanks all!

    I put in WP-spamfree, and that so far seems to be working! Before that suggestion, all I had heard of was askimet, and what I had read about that one didnt’ inspire me.

    Re 2.5.1, last time I upgraded was a very traumatic experience, so I’m in no hurry to do it again.
