    Hello

I’m having trouble using the same SKU inventory number and SKU attribute number. After editing and updating an item, I get an “Invalid or duplicated SKU.” notification, which was previously editable. Therefore would like to ask for help or solve this problem.

    Thank you

    Hi @itsupportacemsthailand

By default, WooCommerce requires each SKU to be unique. This ensures that each product and its variations can be accurately tracked and managed. If you see an “Invalid or duplicated SKU” notification, it means that the same SKU is being used for another product or variation.

If you’re sure that the SKU is not duplicated, it might be a glitch. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. If the issue persists, please provide us with more details so we can investigate further.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the response. We understand this, but our unique usecase requires SKU’s of variations to match those of the main product. How can we configure our environment to allow us to use the same SKU for our parent product and its variations?

    Hey, @itsupportacemsthailand!

As mentioned, by default it is not possible to have duplicated SKUs, but you can achieve this with custom code.

While we can’t provide support for code customization as per our support policy, we do our best to offer advice and direct you to appropriate resources.

I found an old thread that might help you, here’s the link.

Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

You can also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there too.

    I hope this helps.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!
