• HI

I am a new guy to wordpress. I just installed the WP to my site and tried to upload an image. It showed the following error.

Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I googled for solution and was suggested to change permission.

Then, there was no uploads file inside wp-content directory. I created it manually and set permission to 775

But still I am getting the same problem. Somebody please help.

    – Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777.
Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again (very important for security reasons!) and check that everything still works OK

If you are using WPML, I’ve heard that the WPML Media plugin is giving this kind of problems.

    Hi, thanks for your responses.
I tried as you said. But nothing changed.

But I found something fishy. I was not able to change the file permission. No matter how many times I have tried to change the permission, it remains same: 766

Why is that name is not changing? Am I been hacked?

    Please help.

I was not able to change the file permission.

have you discussed this with your hosting provider: I was not able to change the file permission.
