untill i recived a warning to upate to 3.0 it was ok , and i found an error says failed to update, i thought the failure was to the version of wordpress, but then i found out the the plugins can’t be updated or i can’t even install a plugin online,
i have to download it and upload it manually,

each time i try t update a plugin i get this message >

  • Have you tried updating your plugins manually?

    Dear esmi,

is there anything wrong with file permissions>>I’ve check that my permissions are 755??
    please help

I don’t think it’s a permissions problem. Do you get the Could not create directory. /public_html. message for every attempted plugin upgrade?

thank you so much, problem resolved by
deleting the (upgrade) folder under (wp-content) and recreating a new one with 777 permissions

I spent hours working on the same issues, installing plugins, only to find out it had nothing to do with changing permissions. All permissions were correct, (which ticks me off wasting my time on incorrect information)!

The problem was the upgraded wordpress version did not overwrite the old version, therefore, the plugins were in the old folders, from the old wordpress version. So I had two duplicate versions of wordpress on my directory.

The plugins I was trying to install, were going to the old version (doing it manually) and would not “find” plugin folder, in the new wordpress version.

I delete ALL files and folders of the old version, copied the plugin folder and put it under the new wordpress content folder. Now the plugins have the correct “directory folder” to got to. No problems now.

Has nothing to do with permissions!
