I can’t rename categories

    I can add and delete categories but I can’t rename them. The only message I get is that “Category was not updated”
    Anybody else have that problem?

  • no. usually you can “edit” them. you upgraded recently? Lovely things like that always happen w/ upgrades.

    I could still edit them a couple days ago and I didn’t change anything, no upgrades, no new themes or plugins.

    When I get this problem it is because there is a duplicate category name.

    I am trying to remember if the same goes for a link category, but if I remember correctly it allows for a duplicate name and changes the slug when there is a duplicate with a link category.

    Could that be the problem?

    sorry, but I don’t seem to get it.
    What do you mean by duplicate category name? I have 8 categories and I know for sure that there is just one of each.And I only have one link category which is different than any of the normal categories.

    I was able to change the name but not the slug.

    Which from what I read you don’t have that problem.

    You wrote that you were able to change the name of the categories, but not the slug. In your first post you wrote that you can’t rename categories. Would you you mind clarifying? It can help to figure out where the problem is coming from. Thank you ??

    Yeah sorry, first time I tried, I tried to change both name an slug and it didn’t work. Later I tried to just change the name and that worked but I still couldn’t change the slug.

    I had this problem. I was trying to rename a category from

    “Boss Emails”

    to simply

    “Boss”

    and it wouldn’t update.
    But! I changed the Category name to “Foo” it worked. At first I thought it be something about the name, shortening it to a new title that is already contained (already part of) the old title.

    Then I realized I had a tag called “Boss” already. When I deleted that tag, then I was able to change the category to “Boss”. Doesn’t like tags and categories with the same title?
