Also, and this may be insufficiently clear from the docs, you should take care to enter only, e.g., https://mastodon.online, and _not_ include your username. (This will be clearer/more robust in a next version.)

Exactly, it should be https://mastodon.nl. After that, you should see an authorize button and get it to work.

The upcoming version will better address this issue.
