It may be important to note that I use a multisite install of WordPress via WP Engine.

Although all my pre-existing snippets are working as expected, I can’t make any new snippets for some reason.

While on the …wp-admin/options-general.php?page=post-snippets%2Fpost-snippets.php&tab=snippets page within my dashboard, when I click the “Add New Snippet” button at the bottom, the page refreshes, and I see a message at the top that says “A snippet named Untitled has been added.” However, the fields for me to fill out for the new snippet names Untitled are not visible on the screen — definitely not at the bottom as it used to, but also not at the top or anywhere in the middle of my list of snippets.

I have 11 snippets listed on this page in my dashboard. I don’t see any pagination links that would take me to the missing “Untitled” snippet.

I also noticed that the very first time I use the New Snippet button within a session, a new snippet listing for me to fill out appears. However, when I save the page after adding to the new snippet fields, the new snippet disappears from my list. This happened to me a few weeks ago (~June 10, 2017), and I decided to give the situation some time to resolve itself before re-checking (they were doing some updates on the hosting server). It looks like the snippet I created way back then has now showed up in my list of snippets available for editing.

I was able to create one new snippet today that is currently not visible to me. I will keep checking back to try and figure out how much time has to pass before I get access to edit it.

  • Hi Heather

My name is David. Johan and I have agreed that I will take over development of Post Snippets. You can read more on https://www.postsnippets.com.

In the current version there is a technical limit on the amount of snippets that can be created due to the current way Post Snippets is built. The limit depends on the server configuration. I think you might be experiencing this issue. It is known to me and one of the first things I want to fix in the upcoming version 3.0.

What is the max_input_vars in your php.ini, and can you double it (from 1000 to 2000 for example)? If you don’t know how to find this, you can ask WP Engine.

I don’t think it’s because you are on WP Engine, but I could be wrong.

    Hi David

I’m really happy to hear that someone will be able to actively monitor the support for this plugin. It’s been extremely useful, so it’s good to know it’s not going the way of the dinosaur any time soon. ??

The plugin randomly started working for me again shortly after I wrote in. I’m not really sure what made the difference, but I didn’t update the plugin, so it seems unlikely that it was anything to do with the plugin’s code.

It turns out that with WPE, I must ask them to make any needed adjustments to the max_input_vars — mine had been 1000, and they have now updated it to 2000.

I’ll keep an eye on things and let you know if it gives me any more trouble.

    Thanks much!

    Hi Heather

Ok, sure, keep me posted if you run into it again.

    Kind regards
    David
