I can’t change the theme of my posts list. Everytime I try I see this and I’ve tried with both Firefox and Chrome. Reloading the page doesn’t solve the issue. Thanks.

    Hi @fabykennedy,

It’s been ages since I last tried to use the widget via Customizer so something might have changed since then that broke the functionality there. I’ll look into that as soon as possible.

For the time being you should be able to set the widget theme via Appearance > Widgets > [Your sidebar] > WordPress Popular Posts (if not then please let me know and I’ll have another look).

Thank you very much for the fast reply. I’ve just tried but unfortunately there’s the same problem. Don’t worry, I’ll wait for a fix and thanks again.

That’s odd. Got a couple of questions for you, @fabykennedy:

    • Are you using the latest version of the plugin?
    • WordPress version?
    • Does the problem persist even if you switch to a different theme (both on the Customizer and on the Widgets screen)?
    • Any other information that might help me reproduce the problem?

    Plugin version: 5.4.2
    WordPress version: 5.8.1
I can’t switch to a different theme ‘cos the option is locked. Actually I can’t even set “None”, it’s all blocked.

I’ve tried to customize it with Firefox, Chrome and Edge through WordPress panel but the problem persists as you can see here.

Yeah this is strange… I’ve even tried to start Firefox in safe mode ‘cos I thought the problem might have caused by some extension but no way…

    Hi @fabykennedy,

Alright, so the problem here is that you’re trying to use the classic WordPress Popular Posts widget with the new block-based Customizer sidebar. The issue is that the classic WordPress Popular Posts widget doesn’t work very well with WordPress 5.8 and newer.

You’ll need to either install the Classic Widgets plugin if you want to continue to use the classic WPP widget and then it’ll work as usual (see https://streamable.com/oothv1), or just remove the classic WPP widget from your sidebar and then use the new WordPress Popular Posts block instead.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Yes it’s worked, everything is working properly now. Thank you very much for your kindness.
