This morning when I went to write a new blog post, I discovered I couldn’t. I can enter copy into the blog, but if I go much past a sentence the preview and the published page go blank – no post.

If I give a cut-n-paste of my post to another member of my blog and they enter it, it will publish just fine.

Nothing has changed since last night when I made my last post. I wake up this morning and all of a sudden I’m unable to make posts.

    Any ideas?

  • Obviously something changed or else this would not happen. Are you the website admin? Could it be that another member changed your permissions?

I’m the only admin, and I changed nothing. I have no reason to make that up, if I had changed something I would simply undo it.

I even created a whole new account, made them an admin, copied the post into the editor, previewed it and it was blank. Published it, it was blank.

My Author (his role) took the exact same cut-n-paste and it published fine, as did his own article this morning.

Are you using an outdated version of WordPress? I found a few threads with similar issues from 4 years ago.

This is one avenue that usually fixes that problem:
1.Create new admin user (e.g. newadmin) with Administrator Role
    2.Login as ‘newadmin’
3.Degrade the old ‘admin’ user to Role of Subscriber and Save
4.Promote the old ‘admin’ back to Administrator Role and Save
    5.Login as the old ‘admin’

    If that doesn’t work try:
1.Create a new admin user (e.g. newadmin) with Administrator Role
    2.Login as ‘newadmin’
3.Delete the old ‘admin’ user and assign any posts to ‘newadmin’
    4. Create ‘admin’ user with Administrator Role
    5. Login as ‘admin’
    6. Delete ‘newadmin’ user and assign posts to ‘admin’

    Patrick,

I just tried this and it didn’t work. Humm.

If I post the entire blog post, it goes blank. If I delete everything but the first sentence, it appears just fine. If I go over a sentence or two the published (and preview) post have just a header (title) and a white page with no text.

Does your installation have any other backend customizations?

My WP is up to date.

    Have you tried:

–deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins if you have that folder.
–switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    There’s something bigger going on…

This morning when this all started I could still see my Jetpack stats at the top of my page. Now, when I view my blog as the Admin, I see nothing at the top of the page anymore (stats, pending posts for approval, nothing).

    This thing is slowly unraveling!

Oh, crud… that’s because I demoted my Admin to a subscriber and then moved it back to Admin… Argh. Sorry.

This mess just keeps getting worse. I can’t seem to reactivate my Jetpack stats now. I keep getting this message:

You are not a member of this site.

If you have just installed the WordPress.com Stats plugin, this error probably appeared because the API key entered in the plugin belongs to a different WordPress.com user account.

The owner of the API key must visit this site’s stats page to grant access.

Did you resolve the issue? If not, did you do this? :

–deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins if you have that folder.
–switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Edit: Let’s keep jetpack disabled for now, it’s unrelated to the primary issue in this topic.

I don’t get this, Jetpack is telling me it’s connected… How do I reconfigure the API key that’s apparently out of whack now?

Let’s keep jetpack disabled for now, it’s unrelated to the primary issue in this topic. You can further troubleshoot that issue in another topic later.

Please see my previous post about deactivating plugins.

Ok, I deactivated all plug ins and the post now appears.

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to reactivate my Jetpack now.

Perfect ?? Now, enable plugins one by one and see which one is causing issues with being able to post new articles.
