I cannot activate the plugin

Hi there
I cannot activate the plugin. I download it, then install it in my wordpress site, click on activate and it takes me to the plugin area, but the plugin is not activated. I tried to activate it again but it seems that it cannot be activated. Any idea what is the problem?
