As I reported in Opening slider-ID directly in Frontend gives HTTP Error 404 I guess that routing of the plugin generally is failing. This also manifests when attempting to insert.

    Reproduction

    1. Open a page/post in the Block Editor.
    2. Insert a “Block Slider” block.
    3. Clicking into search

Actual: Does nothing. I also typed the ID of one the created sliders in all possible forms: slider-1234 , 1234.

Expected: I guess this is supposed to open a combobox where you can search and select from your existing sliders.

    Environment

    • Block Slider 2.1.6
    • WordPress 6.2.2
    • Gutenberg plugin 15.9.1

    Hello,

I have a suggestion that might help resolve the issues you’re facing. I recommend regenerating/flushing your WordPress permalink. If you’re unsure how to do this, you can follow the steps outlined in this tutorial post.

It appears that both of your issues are possibly related to this, so regenerating the permalinks might do the trick. Please give it a try, and let me know how it goes.

    Best regards,
    Munir

Hi, I had regenerated the permalinks w/o success.

Just few days ago, 12 AUG 2023, you published 2.1.8, with this changelog notes:

    • Fix: Blockslider not working in FSE.
    • Fix: slides overview not loading correctly.

That were the relevant changes to work it seems: Tried v2.1.8 and now the search box in the Slider block within Gutenberg performs search within the existing sliders and shows their titles, as can be seen on this screenshot:

One followup bug though: Search seems to not work at all OR is set too tolerant:

So far I have only 2 sliders:

    • “Equipment Rental” consisting of images without any caption or overlay text
    • “Text Only Slider” consisting of text only slides

Searching in the Block Editor in a blank slider block:

    • ? For “text” or “text only” strangely yields the results “Text Only Slider” and also “Equipment Rental” which has no “text” in its title, nor in its body, nor in its markup (when toggling on “Code Editor” ???-M ).
    • ? Interestingly the other way round, searching for “equip” yields “Equipment Rental” only.
    • ? Somehow the words “text” and/or “only” yields results which do not contain them at all. Maybe they are special keywords or stopwords?

    Hello @abitofmind,

I appreciate your follow-up. I’m pleased to hear that the primary issue has been successfully addressed, allowing me to mark this ticket as resolved.

Regarding the bug you mentioned in your follow-up, I will conduct an investigation and attempt to reproduce the issue on my side. In addition, I’m planning to enhance the block inserter experience by potentially showcasing a list of available sliders. This should eliminate the need for you to search extensively. Stay tuned for these improvements.

    Best regards,
    Munir

Of course I had to follow up reliably! Search now working in general can definitely be marked as resolved.

Glad that you will also look into query precision and also the Search UX itself (offering last edited sliders + search if not among them or for users preferring typing instantly).

Had stopped testing prematurely. The joy was short. The next step (insertion) then fails.

As searching generally works I leave this resolved.

Reported followup bug: Empty Slider block: Searching yields available sliders but inserting then fails
