I can FTP my site using FTP software but cannot update inside dashboard

I can open my dashboard but when I try to upgrade WP or any new plug-ins. or even update a page or upload media, I Get a failed to connect to FTP server xxx.

But when I FTP using any FTP sotware like filezilla, fireftp, etc. it works.

I have the same FTP settings on both occasion.

I am dumbfounded at this point.

Any help is appreciated.
