I blew it, PHP-style

  • Hi folks,

    I’m a newbie working with the templates to version 1.5.2 and accidentally deleted the coding at the end of the sidebar template. Now I get a parse error on my blog. I’ve looked all over the site, but maybe someone knows — is there a place where I can see the original code, the one that comes with the installation, so I can restore those last lines? I can make a second installation, of course, but that’s a lot of fuss just to see what the original coding looked like before I frakked with it.

    Any help much appreciated.

  • Um…. just download a fresh distro, then open the sidebar.php in a text editor?

    Thanks for the reply. I should add I didn’t install this, but the site admin at my company did. I can find only 2.0 on the site, not 1.5.2, and the last line of the 2.0 sidebar doesn’t solve the parse problem. Forgive my ignorance — I’m a Movable Type guy and just learning how WP works, though I like it. MT displays original-template coding on its web site and has saved my a$$ a few times.

    Well, hmm. Which template are you using for 1.5.2 then? Regardless that you didn’t do the original install, if you get a fresh download of the theme, you should be able to see the stuff you’re missing.

    Kubrick. I think I might just copy what I’ve done, restore the original coding from 2.0, then add back until I get a parse error and stop there.

    Thanks much! This gets me a step closer to corporate blogging goodness. I’ll return if it doesn’t work out.
