I am new to wordpress and I am having problems with themes and creating new post

    Hello everyone! I am having problems when I want to add, preview or activate a new theme. I have been following a step by step tutorial so I don’t understand what is going on. I have deactivated all plugins and tested, cleared cache and restarted and no case.

    I’m also having trouble creating a post: the page redirects to another totally blank page.

    I’m really in a bind, unable to do anything and I don’t know how to get out of it.

  • You have WordPress installed at the domain you provided alright, but the current public website is not built with WordPress.

    It seems you have some other site builder (I see references to mywebsitebuilder.com) or static pages on the domain. You need to get these out of the way (especially the index file) to give way for WordPress to work effectively.

    NB: Normally if you have an existing site, you’d build your new WordPress site on your local computer or in an online staging environment (provided by your host) so your existing site can remain online while you build the new WordPress site. When you’re done with your new WordPress site, you’d then backup your old non-WordPress site… and transfer the new WordPress site to the root of your domain to replace the old site. Having the two together as you do now creates problems.

    Hello George, thanks for the reply. I deleted several files and the old page no longer appears, but the themas section remains the same.

     I was able to fix it! I uninstalled wordpress and reinstalled it. Evidently I created the website with hostgator website builder (I didn’t remember it) and that’s where the conflicts started.
