Hyperlinking an image affects other items in the sidebar

I added a text widget to my sidebar and inserted this code to display an image that links to another page:

<a href="https://www.durhamdigs.ca/gardens">
<img src="https://www.durhamdigs.ca/wp-content/uploads/Map-of-Gardens.jpg" />

The link works fine but it also affected a few links below in my “Events List widget” plugin. When I remove the hyperlink the Events list reverts back to it’s normal links.
Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
