Hybrid tabs not styling correctly?

I’m using the Hybrid News theme for a new site, and I have downloaded and activated the Hybrid Tabs plugin.

I’ve also un-commented the call to import tabs.css in style.css, per the instructions. Still, my tabs aren’t displaying properly. There’s no title bar and the tab boxes are stacked down the right side of the container instead of being side-by-side.

I get the feeling I’m doing something wrong but I don’t know what, and the support forum costs $25. Does anyone have any insight into this before I plunk down money to access the support forum?
