Today, my client received a notice from Google Search Console noting problems with crawling a couple of pages. After winding through the various rabbit holes in the Google Search Console dashboard, I found that it’s not the pages that are failing, but specific files on the pages. Most of the errors look like this:

Do you have any suggestions to solve this problem?

    Hi @marjoriesdaughter

I hope you are doing good today.

Could you clear that folder (/wp-content/uploads/hummingbird-assets/) via FTP or navigate to Hummingbird -> Asset Optimization and click on “clear cache” button. Later on, visit that page and other pages on site as well, so that new assets will be generated, and then crawl the site again and see if this helps?

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

That is helpful information. I checked out that directory and then cleared the cache through the dashboard. Now I know that those to structures are connected.

We have actually had two Google issues with Hummingbird in the last couple of weeks. The first was with Google AdWords, which had previously run just fine, being refused. The error screenshot sent by techs at Google indicated a problem with Hummingbird. In that case, I cleared the cache after doing some research on the error.

Since this is the second problem with cached files from Hummingbird, I’m somewhat concerned about this plugin. Although it made a significant improvement in page speed, the trade-off of problems with various Google Tools is disconcerting.

    Hi @marjoriesdaughter

    Thank you for the information.

We don’t have a report about the Google tools flagging the compressed files, those hash files example hummingbird-assets/61d71275187b0d067202f7a7ad4af342.css” is the compressed version of plugins or theme CSS files, when you open those files on your browser on top of it you will see the handler comment which is the real file name, it may include more than one file.

    Thank you for your reply!

We approached this problem from two directions.

    1. The files indicated as a problem by Google AdWords was the file created by Hummingbird.
    2. We appealed the Google AdWords decision since the ads had been running and had never been a problem before.

We just received notice that our appeal to Google AdWords was accepted. The company that works on the AdWords said that there was some kind of glitch with Google AdWords.

    Good to know!
