HumanCaptcha Not Accepting Correct Answers

I’m sure this is the second time I’ve tried the plugin, and on getting the error ‘remembered’ I got it last time too (on an earlier version of WP).
Also, I see another thread for the same issue (but opened a new one because it was marked ‘resolved’). There seem to be two people reporting issues on that one, with only the latter giving enough information and actually concluding that it was his server’s fault rather than the plugin’s. It MAY be my issue too … to be honest, not knowledgeable enough to check … but I hope not. The plugin is ideal – far better than the dreaded CAPTCHA – and easy to ‘tweak’ presentation wise, if only I could get it to actually work! ??
Can’t give you a real link to a demo of the problem as I was trying it out on an off-line WAMP server and haven’t uploaded it to the ‘live’ site because I couldn’t get it working. However, if you give me 24 hours from this notification, I’ll be uploading some other changes, and activating the plugin to demo the issue shouldn’t be too much of a hardship.
Initially tweaked the default questions a bit to fit the site (e.g. “How many legs do 2 spiders have? Answer as a number” with the answer “16” became “How many legs do two spiders have?” with ‘Enter a lowercase word’ as a placeholder in the INPUT element and an answer of “sixteen”). However, when that wouldn’t accept the answer I uninstalled then reinstalled the plugin to check that something I’d done hadn’t broken it. Same “wrong answer” screen using the default questions with an un-tampered with copy of the plugin.
Hope this is enough of the right kind of information, without being too long winded. I’d love to get it to work, even if that means admitting I’ve done something wrong, or not done something I should have! ??
