This week when I try to access my wp-admin page to login I get the drop down dialog box that says:

“A username and password are being requested by https://www.annastowe.com. The site says: “For human verification, enter ‘human’ as the Username and this verification number ‘357552’ as the Password”

I can proceed and log in, but only if I fill in the values.
Can someone tell me what this is and if I need to take action. I have filled the form and entered the site a couple of times but I am worried the site has been compromised. Thanks for any help!

  • Check with your hosting company – many enabled added security in the past few weeks as a result of mass attacks on servers.

    You were right!
I just chatted with my host and this was their reply:

Due to recent and ongoing attacks worldwide on WordPress sites, our server team has implemented secondary authentication to help reduce and prevent the attacks from affecting WordPress sites hosted with us. This is simply an extra security measure in place & does not mean your site has been compromised. However, for the time being, you will need to enter the username & password that appears before you will be able to log into your WordPress admin.

    Thanks for the help!
