Huge Time Waster

  • I can’t possibly total the number of hours I have spent attempting to make this plugin work or to fix it after an update. When it does work, it’s great but updating to a new release is usually a nightmare. Best to leave a functioning version untouched.

    The most recent update discontinued use of imagerotator because of a security issue. Ok, that’s responsible but the results of updating were contrary to the support provided by Nextgen. My Slideshow Widget, and Nextgen Widget and all of my galleries outputted the deadly “No images were found” error.

    I tried rolling back further and now the sidebar is completely screwed.
    Despite carefully reading their instructions, checking their support forums, rarely can I simply resolve a problem, or actually find a conclusive fix for a problem, of which there appear to be many. This plugin is seriously flaky and complicated.

    @goldrank – Addressing the security concerns of the imagerotator.swf file would not be affecting the NextGEN Widget as it does not use the flash slideshow by default. If you set the NextGEN Basic Slideshow to use the flash version by default it should have gracefully failed back to the standard jQuery version (and did in all of our test sites).

    I would suggest it be much more useful to create a support topic to try to help with troubleshooting the various references you are making although this feedback here is also useful.
