HUGE SLOW DOWN
-
Hi,
Your plugin is slowdown the page load speeds from 3.5s to 8.8s. Is there a way of fixing this?

Hell @danishhaidri:
Sorry to hear that your site is not performing as quickly as before with our plugin activated. However, there could be a number of reasons to explain what you observed, including the behavior of other plugins, your theme, or demands on your server. ( You didn’t say whether you observed this behavior on a local, staging, or production server. ).
What’s required here is to isolate the behavior to identify the root or contributing cause. [The Popup Maker plugin is actually very performant and uses very little resources to run. ]
Please refer to the following documentation article to assist with troubleshooting:
https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/332-test-whether-a-plugin-or-theme-interferes-with-popup-maker
One other thing to note that can contribute to a site slowdown: Popup Maker does not recommend activating more than 3 – 5 popups on a single page. Users have reported problems on their site when they were activating 50 or even 100 popups on a single page load. THAT will slow down your site. It’s not the fault of the plugin; it’s the demand on the server to preload all those resources into the browser.
So if you’re activating a lot of popups on your site, but you only intend to display 1 or 2 on any given page, then change your targeting conditions.
Here’s a link to several documentation articles that will explain targeting conditions and how to manage them.

Thanks for the info. We have only one popup activated on the entire site running on the home page. Even that popup doesn’t work properly. There is no dimension control for the popup.
@danishhaidri – Ok, the million dollar question, what are the contents of that popup? If its a video, iframe, large image etc, then you are likely experiencing an expected slow down as its no different that if you loaded that content in the page itself, its just hidden.
By default though, 1000 empty popups during our tests only slowed server response times by ~50ms, not even noticeable outside of speed testing suites. Vice versa, 1 popup with a large video loaded could easily increase page load times drastically unless its loaded on demand.
We offer 2 solutions to help mitigate these types of things with some types of content:
1. Our video extension can load videos on demand.
2. Our Remote Content extension can load iframes and other limited types of content on demand.Beyond that, our plugin won’t add load time because it’s been well optimized over the past 5 years, here is all our plugin does on the front assuming you add no content to your popups:
1. 2 DB queries ever, even if you had 1000 popups.
2. 1 .css & 1 .js file, no matter how many extensions or popups.
3. A few divs per popup in terms of HTML.Any noticeable differences have always been found to be content related in general.
As for
Even that popup doesn’t work properly. There is no dimension control for the popup.
I honestly don’t know what you mean. If your having issues beyond speed, you will of course need to give us some more detail for those, but you can customize pretty much everything about your popup’s, including size via the Popup Settings -> Display -> Size tab.
Hope that helps. If your issue is resolved please take a moment to rate and review the plugin or support.
If you still need help please message us directly at https://wppopupmaker.com/support/ with as much detail as you can and include a link for us to check out.
