It all started this morning. I log in normally to a fully functional site and i see I have like 7 updates to do. So i click the button to go and update my plugins, that appears to work fine. Then I notice the wordpress themes need updating, okay, update all four of those. Then I see a message that there was an error when auto-updating to 3.9.1, so I click “re-try” and it says it failed, so I try it again, and it says it works. Okay, great.

Now I go to add products in woocommerce and that plugin is missing. The plugin links in the dashboard menu are just gone. I check the plugins page and it doesn’t show up. Weird, I thought. I checked the directory via FTP and it’s still there, but just not showing up in wordpress dashboard at all, like it’s not there.

Then I check my page front end, visitors perspective. Some of the plugin shortcodes associated with other plugins are not working at all. (google maps plugin, for instance)

Also, i have shortcodes for a toggle section (like question and answer thing) that doesn’t work anymore. I can’t remember if that shortcode was from my theme or woocommerce, i just don’t remember. Either way, it’s not working either.

Then I think it’s okay! I have my backup plugin which backs up to a dropbox folder on my desktop. I go into the dropbox folder where that’s all stored and it’s empty! I keep up to 5 backups in their via a backup plugin and it was all deleted!(luckily i was able to pull up the “cache” folder that the plugin also made and i have the last two backups…

I’m so confused on what to do at this point. How do I go about fixing this??

(note, I just checked my backup plugin via wordpress dashboard and it has options to “restore” the files… Do you think this would help/fix/or make it worse??

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Please help! lol. ??

  • OK – first step – did the WordPress core upgrade complete successfully?

To my knowledge, at first it did not. But then I clicked “Re-Install Now” from the Updates page and then it did.

I’m still able to get into the dashboard, and the front end. But with all these issues. I don’t know where to start to make it right.

Well, the good news is that, in theory, all of your plugin settings should still be safe in your database. Can you FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) & check to see what folders you have inside wp-content/plugins? There should be at least one folder for each plugin/.

Yes, I’ve accessed the wp-content/plugins folder and the plugins are all there. And all of them are showing up in the dashboard, except for woocommerce.

Have you heard of something like this happening before?
Thank you for your time, btw.

    I’m sad. ??

I’m almost desperate enough to rollback both wordpress and woocommerce… but I won’t… or will i…

    What a disaster.

I can’t even begin to explain the issues I have been troublshooting for 2 whole days.

    My Solution:
When it came down to it, someone when I updated, certain files were removed from my website. Particularly the Woocommerce.php file in the plugin folder, and then the css and fonts folders within the assets folder (also in woocommerce)

I’ve slimmed down my plugins to only what I really need. and deleted the others that I was not using.

    I’m fine now.
Lol! I have to laugh, but you know how wordpress can be sometimes! and getting help! Yikes!
I will try to help out the forums with advice next time I get some free time.

    Thank you.
