• We didn’t like the recent backend changes (image upload, etc.) that were made to Nextgen but accepted them because it’s the best WordPress gallery plugin and kept rolling.

We made the update this past weekend to the most recent version and our server immediately started crashing. MySQL was taking 118% of server resources compared to normally 14%. We went through the dreaded task of de-activating and re-activating WordPress plugins to find the problem and indeed it was the latest Nextgen, causing server load to jump from 1.28 to 28.12.

Some of our colleagues recommended rolling back to 1.9 and that’s what we did. The interface is much better and load is normal. With that said, we have been using Nextgen for years now and thank you for the plugin!

  • Same problem here. Couldn’t describe it that detailled but my page now takes minutes(!!!) to load.

You would think that now NextGEN Gallery is “professionally” run you would not experience such problems. But infact that is all that happened since then. Problems over problems, ever heard about testing???

I admit that I am not a paying customer. Basically that’s the only reason why I am still using this gallery. Worst thing is that usually the forum posts are NEVER answered by photocrati…

So far I was too lazy to change back to wordpress standard gallery but looking back at the amount of time I had use to get rid of the NextGEN problems I would have been long finished and a lot happier as well.

I agree. I’m a pro customer too and I have thousands of images in my NextGen install which ran flawlessly until it was acquired (and ruined) by Photocrati. I had to disable this latest version just to get my site running again, which means half of my posts are broken since the gallery functions don’t work. Upset doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this garbage that NextGen has turned into.

I’m going to try reverting back to 1.9 and see if I can get the site working properly again.

cramtech1, how did you roll back to 1.9? I need to do the same thing. I had to deactivate the plugin because it was taxing my host’s database. The successive updates were supposed to help, but didn’t. So I need to rollback if possible.

Got the rollback instructions immediately via email and all is totally back to normal for the first time in months. No server timeout or slowness, and no loss of access to my dashboard after activation of the 1.9.13 version. Thanks to WPYogi for the super quick response. It’s great to get help that quickly.

@esmi, thanks for the reminder about NextGEN Pro … and thanks @wpyogi for the link that helped provide the roll back instructions.

@photocrati: I probably wouldn’t have answered to my comment either. But what about solving the problem? It has been a couple of days now…
