Huge Error in Google Search Console

    Hi,

    Whilst looking over the settings in Rank Math just now, I thought I’d take a look at the ‘Google Search Console’ page.

    Clicking onto ‘sitemaps’, it originally said that ‘mysite.com/sitemap_index.xml’ was not a valid sitemap, but on a refresh, all the sitemaps appeared.

    Going into Google Search Console itself, I found that all of my sitemaps had now been replaced by /sitemap_index.xml/ with none of the original sitemaps viewable.

    How can Rank Math rip whole sections of sitemap entries out and replace them with its own version, and should I now be thinking of removing access to GSC by Rank Math?

    Ok, all sorted.

    It appears that the refreshed Google Search Console sitemaps now include a sitemaps index, and clicking onto that item reveals all the single sitemaps.

    New GSC sometimes throws wonky errors but they usually vanish after 48-72 hours.

    Also, if you want, you can create your own app to connect with your site. Here’s a detailed tutorial on that:

    Hi,

    No, it wasn’t a ‘wonky error’ as such, I just found that Rank Math put the sitemap_index.xml straight into GSC on clicking onto the Search Console> Sitemaps section (following the error message).

    Then yesterday I was worried that all my other sitemaps had disappeared, but this morning I found that clicking onto the index.xml bought up all of the old maps.

    Seems like a pretty decent solution actually!

    We do send submit the Sitemaps to Google but Google should not be throwing an error.

    Hi,

    The error that I found was not in Google, but in Rank Math > Search Console > Sitemaps > sitemap_index.xml is not a valid sitemap.

    That’s what led me to check GSC in the first place.

    As I said already though, a refresh shows all the sitemaps loaded up inside rank math, and the sitemap_index.xml loaded up inside GSC, with an option to view all of the submitted sitemaps.
