If you are having issues with very large backup files after upgrading to the latest version, this is a known bug and we are working on a fix.
What happens is that the upgrade renames the backup folder, but in some cases, this fails and you’re left with 2 folders containing any existing backups.

If you have access to the server via FTP, make sure any backup zip files you need are in the new folder backupwordpress-324324-backups then delete the old folder named 4j4353m-backups, those are random characters by the way, so they will be different on your server. If they contain files named your-site-com-default-1-database-2013-09-02-15-33-11.zip, and you want to keep those, download them.

You can also use the Excludes menu to exclude any folder containing backups that is not currently being excluded automatically ( not listed in the excludes popup )

This should fix the issue until we find a permanent fix.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • This fix is not working. First the old backups were obviously not being deleted as the plugin claimed to do. I deleted all of them, and reinstalled the plugin. It is still stuck at “creating zip file”.

can any one help me out, i have been getting this errors for a wile , it was working perfectly and suddenly this errors.

ERROR: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 233832449 bytes)

WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.

    drop box api error: 403

can some one explain why this happens or how can i fix it

any help will be highly appreciated

    thanks

This is usually a site issue – not a plugin specific one. Try increasing the memory available to PHP.

    thanks esmi

i have increase the php memory in php5.ini
re install the plugin and nothing even more errors
i have notice that stalls at 44% when compressing the file

Compression method is TarGz (it stops at 44% all the time when compressing)
[12-Sep-2013 20:28:47] WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.

    2. Trying to send backup with e-mail…
ERROR: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 233832449 bytes)
[12-Sep-2013 20:41:53] Script stopped! Will start again.

    any ideas

i will really like to solve this

    please help

I’m not sure I follow your instructions. Where do I find these two folders?

I can only find the new folder located under /wp-content. Where do I find the old one? I show the 5 latest backups in already that new folder. The first 3 are dated 8/20, 827, 9/2 and are 337mb. The last two are 2g and 3g, dated 9/9 and 9/13. How do I fix this?

    Thanks,
    Tammy

    Dear Paul,
I have an interesting folloving trouble with your nice plugin.
Last version instaled (plugin and WP 3.6.1), backup folder path 0:/www/wp-content/backupwordpress-fc5f598722-backups/ (CHMODE 755).
    Site: https://www.hasicidestne.onet.cz/, login

WP Menu > Tools > Backups set to ONLY DATABASE and the list properly shows them = plugin works ok.
    BUT
in the backup folder there are also complete backups (huge!) (all backup files in .zip CHMODE 644) = list in menu does not show them and does not respect DATABASE ONLY option chosen.
    + VERY BAD
it is not possible to delete them even via FTP (other wp folders/files it is, only this is … blocked.
    +
it is not possible (only here) to change the CHMODE.

This was so bad also with previous WP version 3.5.x I upgraded today, so WP is out of game, probably.

Many thanks for an advice in advance

Having a issue with the large file backup as described here in “creating zip” going forever. Using WP 3.8 and plugin version 2.4.1

I am not seeing that this has been resolved as of today 1-22-2014.

I have tried the process described here and still have the same problem.

    Please advise.
    Thank you
