• Ok, so here goes!

I installed wordpress via namesco’s 1 click install settings. .. great stuff! Nice and quick and easy!

1st problem propped up when I didn’t get the admin password via email, so i’ve been looking at ways to reset the password.

I found this video https://educhalk.org/blog/2008/12/how-to-change-your-wordpress-blog-password-using-phpmyadmin/ to change the password via phpmyadmin.

I found the pdpmyadmin log in page via namesco, logged in no worries! Slected the “admin” user in the WP_users folder.

here’s where i think i’ve gone wrong! Instead of just changing the password, i noticed the email address was incorrect. So i changed it and hit save… now my page has the “HTTP 500 Internal server error – this website cannot be displayed”

i’m a novice and trying hard, but i’m now stuck! 2 questions

1 – how do i fix the http500 internal server error?
2 – i think (hope) i can change the password for my admin via following that video (and not trying to be clever!)

… i’ve had my new website all of 60 minutes and already broken it ??

Can you check your web server’s log for what is tossing that 500 error? I could be the mysql changes or it could be something else.

Huh. Good question! On my setup (I use Ubuntu LTS) the log file is in /var/log/apache2/error.log with the normal access log in /var/log/apache2/access.log and that’s almost certainly not where yours are… root access to my VPS spoils me.

Give this a read. I’ve not tried it myself and there may be an easier way for you, but this may work for you.

Please make sure you make a backup copy of wp-config.php (or any file you edit) before you make any changes.

As i’ve literllay never logged into wordpress before … am i best off deleting it and starting again? i’ve no content to loose so surely thats the best way to start again?

… maybe this time i’ll write down my password first time!

If you’ve no content or don’t mind losing it then yes, wipe it all out and try again.

That’s the easiest way to go and you can chalk this up as a learning experience. ??
