• I’m not sure if I did something to cause this; in the hour beforehand I had saved a couple new posts, updated plugins and installed one new plugin. Anyway, now I can’t access my blog or the admin area and I get this error message;

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare _wp_http_get_object() (previously declared in /hermes/bosweb/web043/b431/ipw.theoccasionalcake/public_html/capecodbranding/blog/wp-includes/http.php:1883) in /hermes/bosweb/web043/b431/ipw.theoccasionalcake/public_html/capecodbranding/blog/wp-includes/http.php on line 1889

    My blog is here;

    I did replace my http.php file with a new one (thinking it was corrupt, etc). After I uploaded the new one all it did was change the error line from 1088 to 1889.

    Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks so much!!!

  • Since this happened after you updated/installed plugins, and you can’t access the admin area, rename the plugins folder on your server to something else. This will deactivate all plugins. See if you can log in, then rename the folder again to ‘plugins’, and activate them one by one.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    I renamed the plugins folder but I still can’t access my site. I also noticed that my plugins folder only contains about 5 of my 15-or-so plugins. Are they located somewhere else as well?

    Anything else I could try?

    Thanks so much!

    Update:

    I just spoke to my hosting company about the error and they said that WP is not installed correctly so I need to delete all the files and folders and reinstall it.

    Before I do that, I’m wondering if anyone can tell me if I’ll retain all the blog articles I’ve posted in the last six months? Also my stats?
    I’d hate to lose over 100 articles and stats for 100,000 visitors.

    Thanks for any advice!

    All your posts and data are stored in the database. Make a complete database backup before reinstalling, just in case. Also, backup the custom theme folder, and the image uploads folder.

    For reference, read this before proceeding. It’s about upgrading WordPress, but it will tell you which files you need to save and backup.

    To answer the other question above… all plugins should be in the plugins folder only.
