• I am running the most current version of wordpress and for the first time noticed that links I create in a post (both text or image) that I include the full path like:

    https://www.www.remarpro.com

    are being reduced to:

    https://www.www.remarpro.com

after I publish. To clarify, when I look at the html code after publishing, the full path is still there BUT when I mouse over the link on a published page the “https://” is missing?

I have some links that require the full https:// to be included so the visitor will reach the correct page.

Has anyone experienced this AND how can I ensure that the full path will be there on click?

    Thanks.

    Mike

  • The only way that this could happen is if you were not entering the full link in the first place. For example, you should not enter www.example.com but https://www.example.com. FWIW, WordPress has always worked in this fashion when it comes to entering urls into Posts or Pages.

If you are using Chrome or Firefox and you are referring to the address that appears in the bottom-left corner of the browser window on mouseover, then this is totally normal.

Chrome and Firefox do not display the leading https:// there, nor do they display it in the address bar. This is a display decision by the developers of the respective browsers that has no effect on the operation of your links. If the full path is there in the markup, that’s all that matters.

Yes, I am using Firefox as my browser. Switching to Safari give me the same result. I believe that the behavior of the link itself is the problem. Using the link in the url address bar works but linking with html embedded in a browser page does not. I have not run across this before.

Can you point us to a publically accessible page on your site that demonstrates the problem?

Apart from the fact that this is a 404 page, there’s nothing wrong with the single link that points you back to the site’s front page.

sorry about that. I grabbed a short link so I wouldn’t have to have the entire seo link displayed on a forum. I apologize. Here is the link:

Is it the link to product that you are concerned about? If so, that link is perfectly fine. I’m not sure quite where it is supposed to link to but its structure is A-OK.

I would rather not post the link here but if you right hand click and copy the link used for that image and then paste the link in the url address bar of your browser you will see the correct behavior of the link. Clicking on the image link itself produces a different result….

I am trying to understand why there is a difference. It seems as thought WP OR the browser is causing somethige different to behave in the link and the only hint I have found was from my original post mentioning that the http was being dropped. It won’t work then…. As a matter of fact, if you copy the link from the image, paste it into the browser url bar and then remove the “https://” you get the exact same behavior and I believe that is the problem.

I am trying to figure out where the disconnect is (wordpress or browsers….) I have tested safari, firefox and chrome all with the same results.

I do appreciate the responses and any assistance with this issue.
    thank you.

The link for that image works fine for me.

hmmm, it takes you off the site and lands you into a shopping cart?

Not the url for the image – no.
