• Ok, so I have a strange issue here…

I have a WP install that was working fine until now, but the last day or two I’ve been getting HTTP errors – but not across all users.

One user is getting a HTTP error when trying to upload files (from a different machine), but the other user isn’t. This is erratic across multiple user accounts.

What is particularly strange is that while I can upload files that originated from my own machine, I CAN’T upload files that originated at one of the machines getting the error.

That was happen pre and post WP 4.0, on a clean install with no plugins.

When you do get the HTTP error, it creates a placeholder for the corrupted image, with the correct name, but no thumbnail appears.

Noooooo idea what this is – any ideas?

Update: So now it appears to be completely erratic. Some images work, others give the HTTP error.

    Any takers?

I’m having the exact same problem.

Also images in my slider bar are not showing up in Firefox but they are in Chrome.

This is the exact error message I get when I try to upload a picture: An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

Same issue here. Using WP 4.0. I tried updating the .htaccess file but that failed.

Same problem here on WordPress 4. Some photos OK, others not. Can’t give you a solution, but can offer a work around.

    Go to Media, Add New.

Underneath the upload box, you will see this:-

You are using the multi-file uploader. Problems? Try the browser uploader instead.

If you switch to the browser uploader, you can upload those failing photos one at a time.

I had something like this once on a site, and am thinking very hard what the solution was back then…
I think it was a memory issue… (but not sure)
If that’s the case it can probably do something about that by allowing php and/or WordPress more memory (though a php.in, the wp_config file and/ort .htaccess)
    Or by calling your webhost

I am having this issue. Some images work but all of the ones that I need to upload will not. I spent a long time with my hosting support and no luck. They say its 100% a WordPress issue. It seems by the forums that many people are having this issue too. Anyone have any idea for a fix?

I’m having the exact same issue as you all describe. As suggested by PC-Paul, I tried the single file browser uploader instead, and received error message “Internal Server Error”. Web host saying it’s a WordPress issue. Causing BIG headache! Please post other possible solutions. Thanks!

I had this problem before and agonized for a week until I somehow managed to fix it, though I don’t recall what I did.

It was not my theme, nor any of my plugins that were the problem. It also wasn’t the permissions on any of the media folders as I played around with those for DAYS from one suggestion that someone had.

This has just cropped up again today. The only thing that I have done differently is that I added a user today, who hasn’t logged in and who I have already deleted.

Is there anyone from WordPress who knows how to solve this “seemingly” serious and widespread problem? ??

I never could figure it out. The only way I could get around it even now is to not use transparencies in my uploaded images. I know that sounds crazy but thats the only way I could get my images on the site and working.

I hope more comes to light from it and they release a fix or something. I still can’t upload images properly.

my issue started recently. It is now allowing some uploads but not all. It will also allow some photos to be edited but not all.
