http error when inserting photos on blog

Everything I read about http errors regarding the downloading of pictures is dated. Can anyone help me? I have been unable to load my photos recently – and the problem developed overnight! I finally upgraded to the latest 3.5.1, thinking that was to blame, but it made things worse, essentially rendering my blog inoperable as I am unable to load any photos but those I put on Instagram first. I would SO appreciate any help you can give me. Basically, I can download photos onto the site occasionally, but most of the time I get an “http error” message. Those that make it through do not offer me any sizing option (thumb, med, or large) as in previous versions, but are so large they jump off the page. (I’ve also tried de-activating nearly all of my plug-ins.)
