HTTP error: possible issue with image format?

Hello. Thanks very much for your plugin. To date it has worked without issue. But I have added a new watermark image (this image), and whenever I try to upload a new image and apply the watermark, I encounter an HTTP Error (screenshot). How can I troubleshoot this?

I did some testing. If I use a slightly different watermark image (this image), there is no issue. This image is a JPG, and the other image is a PNG. The PHP log (see here) indicates that this image format may be invalid (see debug.log below). But I couldn’t find anything in the documentation about allowed image formats.
